While fans have overreacted to Affleck role in the upcoming Superman sequel, there’s more: after this one, he will play the lead role in a number of Batman movies in the future as well.
With Hollywood backing him up regardless of the commotion over the internet, The Avengers director, Joss Whedon, showed faith in his capabilities, in saying, “Affleck’ll crush it. He’s got the chops, he’s got the chin – just needs the material. Affleck and [Henry] Cavill toe to toe – I’m in.”
And despite the illogical angst against choosing Affleck, who directed and acted in Argo, an award-winning film in 2012, he’s been in talks about a Justice League movie which brings together Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to save the world.
In fact, he was approached earlier to direct Man of Steel, and so even though a number of Warner Bros executives weren’t aware of these talks, Affleck had signed on for a number of movies, should there be sequels in the future.
This decision was based on discussions between Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan, the director of the Dark Knight trilogy where Christian Bale played the role of the Batman.
With his talent of being an excellent director and actor made obvious through movies such as The Town and most recently, Argo, it should come as no surprise if Affleck not only takes on the role of the masked crusader but also directs these movies as well.
