While Kinney’s role in The Walking Dead was that of a good girl, she is now exploring darker roles such as a serial killer in training in The Following, a killer on Forever and as Brie Larvan (the bug-eyed Bandit) on The Flash.
When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kinney said, “When I first got the opportunity I was really excited. Obviously I loved playing Beth. She’s so sweet and has such a good heart. But it’s fun to key into that side of you that’s a little bit more evil and dangerous. It was something I was excited to do immediately.”
As she goes on to say, her character on the Flash gives her a lot more freedom given that the original villain is actually a man named Bertram Larvan.
Playing a narcissistic genius who uses her technical skills to wield power as well as take revenge on those who fired her at her job. Given that her creations, the mechanical bees, were troubling, the company that she worked for, ruined her career as a result. Now, in the next episode, she will use those bees to cause trouble and get her revenge.
Of course, this puts her up against Team Flash with whom she does interact but not directly since she has isolated herself in a beehive cave.
That said, her computer skills are tested directly against the Arrow’s Felicity Smoak who is visiting Starling City along with Ray Palmer. This puts Felicity in danger in the episode given that she is considered as an arch-nemesis by Brie Larvan.
