Despite the hype surrounding Brock’s talent on the X Factor, thanks to Twitter, it still was not sufficient to garner Mr. Entertainment, the required number of votes to remain on the show.
After gaining the least number of votes and being sent home instead of Cece Frey, Brock explained why he lost, in saying, “It makes you wonder, doesn’t it? I think that being gay is a wild card in itself. When you’re gay, some people still aren’t OK with you being gay. So there are actually people in the country… I don’t know how many… who think it’s actually wrong. So I wouldn’t doubt it if that does hurt in a way.”
In other words, the result left him deliberating over the fact that what cost him a place in the show was his outspokenness in regard to his sexual orientation.
Despite losing, Brock expressed his happiness in doing his best as a representative of the gay community while also being able to end his performance on the show with a rendition of the song, Total Eclipse of the Heart – a song that was personal to him.
Although comparisons have been made between him and Adam Lambert, who came second on American Idol, Brock disagrees by question that just because they’re gay, it does not necessarily mean that they’re the same.
One thing is true, however: while Lambert’s sexual orientation was revealed only after his stint at American Idol, Brock has held nothing back by boldly saying that his performances were not only for the gay community but also for Japanese boyfriend.
